WINNER
OF THE UNICORN AND LION TRANSLATION AWARD FOR NON-FICTION IS
AWARDED TO AN AUTHOR SOLD THROUGH SYNOPSIS
Leonid
Motylev and Vladimir Babkov have won this pretigious prize awarded
by the British Council for their translation into Russian of
Peter Ackroyd's LONDON. Synopsis sold the Russian rights to
Olga Marozova Publishers in Moscow on behalf of The Susijn Agency
in London.
The
other two books which were finalists for this award were also
sold via Synopsis. They are:
THE
CLOUDSPOTTER'S GUIDE by Gavin Pretor-Pinney translated by Maria
Falikman and Olga Dementievskaya (Gayatri Publishers in Moscow)
on behalf of Conville & Walsh in London
THE
JOURNALS by John Fowles translated by V. Bernatskaya (Inostrannaya
Literatura Magazine in Moscow) on behalf of Aitken Alexander
Associates Limited in London.
The
Unicorn and Lion Translation Award was established in 2006 by
the British Council, the British Embassy in Moscow, Inostrannaya
Literatura Magazine, Knizhnoye Obozrenie newspaper, and the
translation union, Masters of Literary Translation.
